WHY DOES SKIN NEED DIFFERENT CARE IN WINTER THAN IN SUMMER?
In the winter months, the climate in our latitudes is generally colder and drier than in spring and summer. Our skin is now not only exposed to extreme weather conditions, but also has to contend with strong temperature fluctuations between indoors and outdoors. Dry air from heating can affect it, as can aggressive sunlight, which should not be underestimated, especially on winter holidays in the snow. We have tips for you on how to optimally protect and regenerate your skin in winter with the right skin care. This means your skin looks fresh and radiant and feels healthy and supple, even in winter, despite stressful circumstances.
THE RIGHT FACIAL CARE IN WINTER: WHAT DO I NEED TO KEEP IN MIND?
While most of our body protects itself from cold, wet, etc. in winter with appropriate clothing. is protected, our face in particular is exposed to wind and weather without protection. What the skin needs above all in winter due to the dry heating climate indoors and the strong change from cold to warm is a nourishing combination of fat and moisture.
The sebaceous glands reduce their production at temperatures of 5 degrees plus. set them up completely. As a result, the skin becomes dry, rough and brittle. In this case, too much moisture is actually counterproductive. Care products for the winter should have a sufficiently high lipid content or be enriched with valuable ceramides and fine oils. In this way, the skin receives a kind of protective seal that maintains its suppleness and prevents the skin's own moisture from being lost.
- Rich creams are the right choice for dry skin, while combination skin is well prepared for the winter with balancing moisturizers.
- Oily skin naturally has increased sebum production, but it also needs a richer cream in winter to be optimally protected from the cold. Velvety textures that provide the skin with valuable lipids in a light formulation prevent cold and vascular damage.
- Sensitive skin doesn't tolerate the overstimulation to which it is exposed in winter well and needs a lot of attention now so that irritations and symptoms of dryness don't stand a chance.
- Little sunlight and climate-related strains quickly make the complexion appear pale and gray. So that even tired skin can look radiantly beautiful in winter, it also appreciates extra attention in the form of masks, serums, peelings or treatments.
Even more valuable tips for beautiful, well-groomed winter skin
So that the skin can be optimally moisturized, it is recommended to apply a nourishing mask several times a week. This allows valuable nutrients to penetrate even more effectively into the deeper layers of the skin and bind moisture there.
For an even, radiant winter complexion, a gentle peeling is ideal, which removes dead skin cells and optimally prepares the skin for subsequent (intensive) care. It also stimulates blood circulation, which makes the complexion fresh and rosy.
Although a long bath in the tub is a real treat in winter, it puts additional strain on the skin as the warm water deprives it of the beauty elixirs of fat and moisture, which are already rare in winter. Mild moisturizing and moisturizing bath additives or bath oils and a maximum bathing temperature of 35 degrees make bathing less strenuous.
Wearing gloves not only keeps your hands warm, but the skin on your hands is also less affected by the cold. Apply a nourishing hand cream often or, even better, leave it on overnight as a mask under thin cotton gloves. Of course, it also works with thick socks for delicate, well-groomed feet!
So that the skin does not lose too much moisture in heated interiors, it is worth placing small bowls filled with water near the heater. Like special humidifiers, they increase the humidity in the room and ensure a gentler skin climate.
The topic Sun protection should not be neglected in winter either. Although the sun feels like it has less power, UV rays can damage the skin - especially if you spend your winter vacation in the mountains or in the snow. The skin is much more sensitive to light in the winter months than in the summer and therefore needs sufficient protection even in cold temperatures. Many care and cosmetic products already have a sun protection factor of between 10 and 20, but anyone who spends longer outdoors needs a correspondingly higher SPF in winter - especially at higher altitudes, in the snow or near water, where UV radiation is stronger . Don't forget the lips!
